Braintree Town defender Ange Djadja has suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury, a major blow to the club's defensive options. The 23-year-old sustained the injury in August, just three games into his Braintree career after joining from Merstham FC in July.
Djadja confirmed the severity of the injury and the financial challenge it presents. "It wasn't nice to hear because I never thought this would ever happen to me," he said. The estimated cost for his surgery and rehabilitation is over £10,000, a significant sum for a non-league player.
Career Context
His arrival at Braintree followed a standout season where he was named player of the season for Merstham FC. He had made only three appearances for the Iron before the injury struck, cutting short his opportunity to establish himself in the side.
Defensive Challenge
The loss compounds Braintree's defensive issues as they sit 18th in the National League - South table with 10 points from eight games. They have conceded 18 goals this season. The team's recent form has been mixed, with three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five outings, including a 3-0 victory over Needham Market last time out.
Djadja is focused on his recovery. "The quicker I get it done, the quicker I can return to doing what I do best - and that's playing football," he added. The club must now adapt their defensive setup for the immediate challenge ahead.
Braintree's next test is an away fixture against Dorking Wanderers on September 26.
