Braintree Town have been involved in a series of dramatic National League South results, including a last-gasp victory over Slough Town. The club also confirmed a new loan signing and fought back for a point on the road.
Steve Pitt's side secured a 2-1 away win against Slough Town on Saturday, September 5th. Anisius Lewis scored the decisive goal in the 84th minute, sliding the ball under the keeper after a through ball from Adebayo. This came after Reuben Swann had given Braintree an early lead, which was cancelled out by Chris Regis for the hosts in the 32nd minute.
The match saw a late red card for Slough's Arthur Gregory, reducing them to ten men as they chased an equaliser. Braintree held on through the added time to claim all three points. The victory provided a vital boost, moving the team to 20th in the National League - South with 4 points from 5 games.
Braintree Town have signed young Ipswich Town goalkeeper George Barrett on a loan deal until January, according to the East Anglian Daily Times. The 20-year-old shot-stopper made his debut for The Iron in their 3-3 draw with Dover Athletic. He had previously spent time on trial with the Essex club during pre-season before suffering a concussion.
Barrett has returned to action and provides cover for the National League South side. He brings experience from previous loan spells at non-league clubs Canvey Island and Enfield Town last season. The signing adds depth to a squad that has conceded 13 goals in its opening five league matches. Fans can view the current squad list online.
Dover Athletic boss Jake Leberl admitted his team never found their rhythm in a thrilling 3-3 home draw with Braintree. Leberl felt Braintree's game-plan to slow the first half worked, stating, "I don't feel we ever got into a rhythm or any tempo." He credited Braintree's triple substitution in the second half for changing the momentum of the game.
Dover had led 3-1 before Braintree struck twice in the final twelve minutes to snatch a point. Leberl suggested the absence of suspended defender Nazir Bakrin was a significant factor in his side's inability to see out the game. The draw means Braintree have scored 7 goals this season but also have a -6 goal difference. The team's next challenge is an away fixture against 15th-placed Chelmsford City on December 26th, a game featured on the club's fixtures schedule.
